Celebrating World Youth Skills Day 2024: Skills for Peace with Shetechtive Uganda

On July 15, the world comes together to celebrate World Youth Skills Day, an occasion dedicated to recognizing the importance of equipping young people with the skills they need to navigate and contribute to the ever-evolving global landscape. This year, the theme "Skills for Peace" highlights the vital role that skill development plays in fostering a peaceful and sustainable future. At Shetechtive Uganda, we are proud to align our mission with this theme through our dedicated training programs in Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and Media and Information Literacy (MIL).

Shetechtive Uganda: A Commitment to Empowering Youth

Since our inception in 2020, Shetechtive Uganda has been at the forefront of empowering young people across Uganda with 21st Century skills. Our focus has been on providing comprehensive training in GCED and MIL, equipping youth with the knowledge and skills needed to become informed, responsible, and active global citizens. We believe that by fostering these skills, we can contribute to building a more peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable world.

The Importance of Global Citizenship Education (GCED)

Global Citizenship Education is a transformative approach that empowers learners to engage and assume active roles both locally and globally to face and resolve global challenges. GCED promotes values of peace, tolerance, inclusion, and diversity. At Shetechtive Uganda, our GCED training programs aim to instill these values in young people, encouraging them to think beyond borders and to understand their role in a global context.

Through interactive workshops, discussions, and projects, our participants learn about human rights, social justice, and environmental sustainability. These sessions are designed to help youth understand the interconnectedness of our world and the importance of their actions in shaping a peaceful future.

Media and Information Literacy: Navigating the Digital World

In today's digital age, Media and Information Literacy is crucial. MIL empowers individuals to critically evaluate information, understand the role of media in society, and engage with media and digital technologies in a responsible and ethical manner. Our MIL training programs at Shetechtive Uganda equip youth with the skills needed to navigate the complex media landscape, discern credible information, and use digital tools for positive change.

By fostering critical thinking and media literacy, we help young people become informed citizens who can combat misinformation, promote peace, and advocate for social justice through digital platforms.

Skills for Peace: Building a Better Future

The theme "Skills for Peace" resonates deeply with our mission at Shetechtive Uganda. We believe that peace is not just the absence of conflict but the presence of justice, equality, and understanding. By equipping youth with skills in GCED and MIL, we are laying the groundwork for a more peaceful society.

Our training programs encourage young people to become advocates for peace in their communities. Through community engagement projects, our participants apply their learning in real-world contexts, fostering dialogue, understanding, and cooperation among diverse groups.
